Speculative

The Speculative Portfolio allocates funds to organizations that are researching the most effective ways to improve the world. Without rigorous evidence about what works and what doesn’t work in the charity sector, our money will not go to help the men, women, and children who need our help the most.

Innovations for Poverty Action

Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is a research and policy nonprofit that evaluates and promotes solutions to global poverty, generating research that has informed hundreds of successful programs that now impact millions of individuals worldwide. IPA works with governments, businesses and NGOs to design, rigorously evaluate and refine interventions spanning agriculture, education, health, finance, governance, social protection and post-conflict recovery. Their goal is to see that the rigorous evidence they create leads to tangible real-world impact.

Evidence Action Beta

Evidence Action’s mission is to be a world leader in scaling evidence-based and cost-effective programs to reduce the burden of poverty. Evidence Action Beta pressure tests promising interventions that have been rigorously evaluated to determine whether they can be cost-effectively scaled up to improve the lives of millions of people.

Evidence Action is a model of non-profit transparency. The organization makes its documents publicly available and publishes its reports and data.

D-Rev

D-Rev (from “Design Revolution”) designs and delivers affordable, innovative medical devices that protect and transform lives of the global poor. D-Rev is the only portfolio nonprofit medical device company. Their work covers the medical device process from identification of need to design, scaled delivery, measurement of impact and effectiveness, and continual improvement based on findings.

D-Rev leverages the market, rather than being reliant on donations to drive their work. Because they are involved in selling their products, they are accountable to purchasers and users in designing the most appropriate products.
